Former doctor relates poignant and hysterically funny anecdotes about working for the NHS at Christmas。Made me LOL

I didn’t find this book especially entertaining。 It was an easy read to get through, but it wasn’t as entertaining as I expected。 It was a, mostly, dry writing of exactly what happened。 There were a few chuckle-worthy lines here or there。 But most of the book is a generic description of events that weren’t nearly as interesting as I had hoped。

Preferred this is going to hurt-read a bit too much like a blog for my enjoyment。Did enjoy reading though

Smallest book I’ve read thus far, quick read & thoroughly enjoyed the festive themed anecdotes。

I love Adam Kay's writing and humor but this one wasn't as captivating as This Is Going To Hurt。 It was still a great time though, and it was extra fun to read it the night before Christmas。 I love Adam Kay's writing and humor but this one wasn't as captivating as This Is Going To Hurt。 It was still a great time though, and it was extra fun to read it the night before Christmas。 。。。more

A short novel I enjoyed reading over Christmas。 This book is made up of further snapshots from Adam's diary following the book 'this is going to hurt'。 It wasn't quite as good as the original book, (I'd guess because they'd already used the best bits for this one) but it was enjoyable and amusing nonetheless A short novel I enjoyed reading over Christmas。 This book is made up of further snapshots from Adam's diary following the book 'this is going to hurt'。 It wasn't quite as good as the original book, (I'd guess because they'd already used the best bits for this one) but it was enjoyable and amusing nonetheless 。。。more

Perfect way to end the year。 Always wondered what it’s like to work in hospitals over Christmas- and now I know。Fascinating glimpse into the mindset needed to deal with visceral medical matters。 Black humour but never disrespectful。 * Thanks to Libby *

Brilliant, again。 Laughed out loud and cried and then rewatched the fabulous This Is Going To Hurt for the third time。

Following the same format as 'This is going to Hurt' this book contains a series of witty and self-deprecating diary entries from Kay's time as a hospital doctor, all set around the Christmas period。A short book that highlights the highs and lows of hospital working over the festive season, shining a light on sacrifices made as a commitment to the job, and the truth that health doesn't stop for the winter break。 Although the book is set with a humorous tone in the main there are some very poigna Following the same format as 'This is going to Hurt' this book contains a series of witty and self-deprecating diary entries from Kay's time as a hospital doctor, all set around the Christmas period。A short book that highlights the highs and lows of hospital working over the festive season, shining a light on sacrifices made as a commitment to the job, and the truth that health doesn't stop for the winter break。 Although the book is set with a humorous tone in the main there are some very poignant and heart wrenching entries as expected when you consider the books setting。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this quick read! Being in my last year of med school and doing my rotation in cardiac surgery rn, I relate to a lot of the stories that Kay wrote。 It is very impressive how humorous he is, too!

Adam Kay is an excellent author with a recognisable writer's voice, and he balanced humour with the telling of his life working as a doctor during Christmas。 Very interesting and necessary book, heartfelt and moving。 Adam Kay is an excellent author with a recognisable writer's voice, and he balanced humour with the telling of his life working as a doctor during Christmas。 Very interesting and necessary book, heartfelt and moving。 。。。more

This really was the perfect surgical stocking-filler!Filled with cynical wit and front line humour from the wards, incredibly insightful although sometimes a touch nauseating, a thoroughly enjoyable little read I would recommend highly。

It may not inspire you to be a doctor but goes a long way to explain why we have NHS strikes and why we need more

Now that I work/studying a career within the NHS, I can definitely relate and understand the frustration and feelings from this! Great read and great laugh。 Even tho the NHS is still a shambles but we’ll get there !!

Great book, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but the references to his first book annoyed me。 I don't (yet) have that, so don't punish me for that。 Wish it was longer though! Triggers Warnings for Book: descriptions of medical procedures especially around pregnancy and birthI really enjoyed this book, it is really funny, just like the first book 'This is Going to Hurt', and keeps the same styling。It's a lot shorter than the previous one, but I don't think it suffers for that, it still manages to be a good book。5/5 Triggers Warnings for Book: descriptions of medical procedures especially around pregnancy and birthI really enjoyed this book, it is really funny, just like the first book 'This is Going to Hurt', and keeps the same styling。It's a lot shorter than the previous one, but I don't think it suffers for that, it still manages to be a good book。5/5 。。。more

Started reading it on a plane ride, and finished it shortly after。 Really clearly written and easy to follow! Adam Kay really is one of the quirkiest writers I know- it’s not everyday an author can make you laugh and think at the same time, he is a gem!
